International document checklist

An Alabama apostille
starts with the right questions.

Use this list to prepare a useful inquiry. It is a starting point, not confirmation that a particular document is ready for processing.

Build a short document summary.

  • Document type: for example, a public record, school document, power of attorney or corporate record.
  • Issuing state or authority: identify who issued or certified it.
  • Country where the document will be used.
  • Receiving organization’s current written instructions, if available.
  • Required deadline and any delivery constraints.

Check the competent authority’s instructions.

Alabama’s Secretary of State publishes requirements for Alabama public documents intended for foreign use. The document format and signature or certification requirements matter. Federal documents do not use the Alabama state authentication route.

Do not assume an ordinary photocopy or a new notarization is the right preparation for every public record. Confirm the required form with the relevant authority and recipient before arranging service.

Confirm before sending originals.

Discuss the service scope, expected steps, quote and agreed delivery arrangements first. Government processing and shipping affect timing. A checklist does not guarantee acceptance abroad.
